What is Hypercard for Cats?
Hypercard is available as small, yellow coated tablets containing 10mg of the drug diltiazam. This is known as a "calcium channel blocker "which works on the cell membrane of heart muscle cells and of the muscles lining blood vessels. This reduces the heart rate and the excessive force of contraction of the heart muscle which occurs in this condition (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). The heart has a better chance to relax, and becomes more efficient as a pump. Blood vessels supplying the heart muscle open up slightly, improving the blood supply to the heart muscle itself. Blood circulation generally is improved because of the effect on other blood vessels, and the heart has less work to do to pump blood around the body. What are the Hypercard Side Effects?
Initially treated cats can appear subdued and may have a reduced appetite. They may also show some constipation or vomiting. Occasionally skin reactions, redness and rashes are seen.In some cases an excessively slow heart and low blood pressure are caused, and the treatment has to be discontinued.
